The Harsh Reality: Are the EU Rules Killing Renewable Hydrogen?
The EU’s renewable hydrogen dream is stalling not only because of technology, but because of our own rules. Electrolyser costs are far higher than expected, electricity is getting more expensive, and the EU’s complicated RFNBO rules are slowing the scale-up of green hydrogen across the continent. In this video, we break down the real cost of Europe’s hydrogen strategy, why the 2020 assumptions no longer hold, and how additionality, temporal correlation and geographical correlation are making renewable hydrogen harder and more expensive to produce. We also explain what must change, from delaying additionality to keeping monthly correlation and enabling smarter electricity sourcing, so that Europe can stay competitive and actually deliver on its climate goals. If Europe wants leadership in green tech, fixing the rules in 2026 is the first step.
